Prejudice and Discrimination

Even thought we don't encounter the act of discrimination or prejudice first hand at our school, it happens everyday, everywhere. This has been a problem in the United States for many years, dating back to slavery, but our school isn't diverse enough to witness this very much during school. Although the Civil Rights Act has been passed for many years, discrimination and prejudice still occurs. No one should be treated differently because of the color of his or her skin. Also, a person shouldn't be looked down upon because they have a different religion. As Americans, we all have the same rights as ever other American. I can't begin to believe how it would feel to be discriminated against because of the color of my skin or my religion. People tend to either stare or give awkward looks to someone who doesn't look like them. One of my favorite quotes is, "treat people the way you want to be treated." Every human being should be treated equal, no matter what gender, color, or religion they are.

Advantages vs Disadvantages of School Uniforms

There are quite a few advantages and disadvantages of having school uniforms. One advantage is not having to find something to wear everyday to school. If we had school uniforms we wouldn't have to worry about what to wear because we can only wear our school uniform. Another advantage would be, the students look more professional wearing uniforms. The school administrators wouldn't have to worry if the students were wearing clothes that are appropriate for school. Also, having school uniforms would make it easier for the student body to learn. Nobody would be distracted by what their peers are wearing and focus on learning. One disadvantage is school uniforms can be uncomfortable. Students need to be comfortable while at school so they can focus. Another disadvantage would be that students can't be themselves if they have to wear school uniforms. Many students tend to dress the way they feel and if they can't wear the clothes they like, they can't be their own individual. School uniforms can be a asset or a problem for students.
